Police arrest suspected arms trafficker in Tema

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspected member of an arms trafficking syndicate during an intelligence-led operation in Tema as part of efforts to dismantle illegal weapons networks across the country.

The suspect was arrested on July 9, 2026, after allegedly supplying an AK-47 assault rifle bearing serial number AZ71551999, a magazine containing 10 rounds of live ammunition, and a 9mm automatic pistol.

Police said all the recovered weapons and ammunition have been secured to support ongoing investigations.

The latest operation increases the total number of weapons seized in the ongoing crackdown to four. The recovered cache now includes two AK-47 assault rifles with serial numbers BABA405817 and AZ71551999, as well as two pistols.

Authorities have withheld the identity of the suspect, explaining that doing so is necessary to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

The suspect remains in police custody and is assisting with investigations, while security officials continue efforts to identify and arrest other suspected members of the trafficking syndicate as they work to dismantle the entire network.
