The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has officially announced Nana Ama Bonsu

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has officially announced Nana Ama Bonsu, now known as Nana Yaa Akyaa II, as the new Asantehemaa to the Kumasi Traditional Council.

Born Margaret Serebour, the new queenmother has ascended the Kusiamoah Stool, becoming the 15th Asantehemaa in the history of the Asante Kingdom.

The announcement marks the official transition following the passing of Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who died in August 2025.

In line with Asante tradition, the Gyaase Division of the Manhyia Palace on Thursday presented drinks and cash to members of the Kumasi Traditional Council and the Asanteman Council ahead of the formal enstoolment and public announcement.

Following the customary rites, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II invited Nana Yaa Akyaa II to officially assume her new role.

Members of the Kumasi Traditional Council then took turns to pay homage to the new Asantehemaa, pledging their support as she prepares to serve as the mother of the Asante Kingdom.

Nana Yaa Akyaa II has already sat in state for the second time to receive homage from traditional leaders.

She succeeds Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who was widely remembered for her dedicated service to the Golden Stool and the people of Asanteman.

Nana Yaa Akyaa II was selected by the Asantehene in accordance with the kingdom’s long-established traditional processes.

Preparations are currently underway for her formal outdooring as Asanteman welcomes its new queenmother.
