Panama forward Ismael Diaz has issued a strong warning to Ghana ahead of their opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting his side is ready to compete against any opponent.

The 29-year-old striker said Panama’s growing confidence and determination could help them make history at the tournament, which begins for them with a Group L clash against the Black Stars in Toronto.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Diaz stressed that hunger and belief have become key characteristics of the Panamanian squad.

“We are very hungry,” he said.

According to Diaz, Panama’s players now approach major competitions with a fearless mentality and are determined to prove themselves on the world stage.

“We’re really not afraid of anyone, and we want to compete against whoever comes up against us. That’s been important; we’re starting to believe it,” he stated.

The striker believes Panama have developed the confidence needed to challenge more established football nations and make a significant impact at the World Cup.

Preparations have intensified at the team’s training base in New Tecumseth, Ontario, where players have been undergoing tactical sessions, training drills and recovery exercises ahead of the tournament.

Diaz, one of the senior members of the squad, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to achieve positive results.

“I’m completely sure, and I speak for everyone on the team, that we’re going to do great things, God willing, in this World Cup,” he said.

Panama face a challenging group-stage campaign, beginning with Ghana before taking on other opponents in Group L.

The Black Stars, meanwhile, are also putting the finishing touches to their preparations and will be aiming to start their World Cup campaign with a victory.

The Ghana-Panama encounter is scheduled for June 17 at BMO Field in Toronto, with both teams looking to make a strong start to their quest for a place in the knockout stage.
