Awutu Senya East MP, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, gave a World Cup travel slot intended for the constituency chairman to her husband

A constituency executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Awutu Senya East has alleged that Member of Parliament for the area, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, gave a World Cup travel slot intended for the constituency chairman to her husband.

The allegation has intensified reported tensions within the constituency, where disagreements are said to have emerged between the MP and constituency chairman Stephen Ofosu Agyare over the distribution of opportunities and benefits allocated to the area.

The executive, identified as Kobby and believed to be aligned with the chairman, made the claims during an interview on Obaatanpa Radio.

According to him, the Presidency allocated travel slots to constituency chairpersons across the country to enable them attend FIFA World Cup matches.

“There have been several slots allocated to the constituency, with the latest being the World Cup travel slot. I am a constituency executive member, but I was not given one. None of the members at my branch received a slot,” he alleged.

Kobby claimed that Members of Parliament were instructed to collect and submit the passport details of constituency chairpersons for processing.

“The Presidency gave one slot to every constituency chairman to enable them travel and watch the World Cup matches. It further directed all MPs to collect the passport documents of the constituency chairmen and submit them to the government for processing,” he said.

He alleged that although Chairman Ofosu Agyare submitted his passport details as requested, the documents were never forwarded.

“Because of the hatred they have for Chairman Agyare, they failed to submit his passport documents, which are currently lying idle at the MP’s house,” he claimed.

Kobby further alleged that the travel slot was instead handed to the MP’s husband.

“She gave the slot to her husband, Yussif, who has travelled to watch the World Cup,” he alleged.

He also claimed that several constituency executives were sidelined during the allocation process.

According to him, the chairman personally submitted his passport after being contacted by the MP, but the process was never completed.

“The MP called the chairman to submit his passport, which he did. However, she failed to submit it. Whether that was the doing of Yussif, I cannot tell,” he claimed.

“What kind of hatred would drive someone to do this to the chairman and deny him such an opportunity? We want to know what wrongdoing the chairman has committed to deserve this treatment?” he added.

The allegations have not yet been publicly addressed by Naa Koryoo or her office.
