Two security guards attached to the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Naa Koryoo Okunor, are standing trial after allegedly using tactical uniforms resembling those of the police and military to rob a gold dealer of gold valued at GH¢165,000.
According to a Crime Check TV GH report published on August 3, 2026, the suspects, Justice Kpappo Mingle, 31, and Justice Mensah, allegedly carried out the robbery while serving as bodyguards to the MP.
The report said the tactical uniforms used during the operation had reportedly been issued to the suspects because of their security responsibilities.
Before joining the MP’s security team, Mingle reportedly worked as a photographer, while Mensah was said to have been a vulcanizer.
The victim, George Osei Tutu, a gold dealer from Bekwai in the Ashanti Region, was allegedly transporting gold worth GH¢165,000 from Denkyie to Fomena when the suspects intercepted him.
Investigators say the two allegedly forced him onto a bush road, where they robbed him of the gold, his car keys and other personal belongings before fleeing the scene.
Police investigations indicate that after the robbery, the suspects hid in a nearby bush, changed out of their tactical uniforms and travelled to Adansi Asokwa, where they checked into Adom Ara Kwa Guest House before continuing to Kasoa.
The breakthrough in the case reportedly came after Justice Mingle allegedly left his wallet at the crime scene.
The wallet is said to have contained identification and business cards, allowing investigators to trace and later arrest him at Nyanano.
Police said Mingle allegedly confessed during interrogation and led officers to Akweley, where his alleged accomplice, Justice Mensah, was arrested.
Investigators also believe the robbery was facilitated by information allegedly provided by the victim’s excavator driver, identified only as Festus, who is accused of tipping off the suspects about the movement of the gold.
Justice Mingle and Justice Mensah are currently before the Bekwai Circuit Court, where they are facing trial over the alleged robbery.
