A young man has died after allegedly stabbing himself while attempting to demonstrate what witnesses described as spiritual powers during activities marking the annual Fire Festival in Salaga, Savannah Region.

According to a report by citinewsroom.com, the deceased, identified as Sheihu and believed to be in his early twenties, sustained critical injuries during the incident, which occurred on June 24, 2026.

Witnesses said the incident happened during an event organised by local youth groups as part of this year’s Fire Festival celebrations.

According to residents, Sheihu appeared to be attempting to display extraordinary or supernatural powers before a large crowd when he stabbed himself with a knife.

The act, however, ended in tragedy after he suffered severe injuries. Spectators rushed to his aid before he was transported to the Salaga Government Hospital for emergency treatment.

Despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life, he was later pronounced dead.

News of the incident quickly spread on social media, with many expressing shock and sadness over the tragedy.

Residents described the incident as heartbreaking, noting that what began as a festive celebration ended in the loss of a young life.

Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Meanwhile, some community leaders have reportedly urged young people to avoid engaging in dangerous acts or attempting risky stunts that could result in serious injury or death.

The Fire Festival is one of northern Ghana’s most celebrated traditional festivals, attracting thousands of participants each year with its vibrant cultural displays and community activities.
