Ghanaian passport holders can now travel to the Maldives, Zambia and Antigua and Barbuda without first obtaining an entry visa, following the implementation of new visa waiver agreements between Ghana and the three countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the development in a statement issued on September 8, 2026, saying the agreements cover holders of ordinary, service and diplomatic Ghanaian passports.
Under the new arrangements, Ghanaians travelling to the Maldives can stay for up to 30 days without a visa. The same 30-day limit applies to Zambia, while Antigua and Barbuda allows eligible Ghanaian travellers to remain for up to 90 days without an entry visa.
The Ministry said the agreements are intended to make international travel easier for Ghanaians while also strengthening Ghana’s relations with the three countries.
However, it stressed that visa-free access does not mean travellers are automatically guaranteed entry.
“Eligible Ghanaian passport holders may travel to these countries without obtaining an entry visa, subject to the terms and conditions of the respective agreements,” the Ministry stated.
Travellers have therefore been advised to ensure they have a valid passport and any other documents that may be required by immigration authorities upon arrival.
The visa waiver arrangements also do not cover Ghanaians who intend to work, study or take up residence in any of the three countries. Such travellers must still obtain the appropriate permits before travelling.
The Ministry further urged Ghanaians to check the latest entry and health requirements before departure, noting that travel regulations and other conditions may change.
The new agreements give Ghanaian passport holders greater flexibility for short-term travel to the three destinations, while maintaining immigration requirements for longer stays and other purposes.
