Ghanaian lawyer and activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has claimed that the former partner of a senior Guinean presidential official has been arrested in Ghana following an Interpol Red Notice issued at the request of Guinean authorities.
In a post on social media, Barker-Vormawor alleged that the woman, identified as Bangoura, a Belgian citizen, was arrested at about 5:00 a.m. on August 4, 2026, shortly after arriving in Ghana from Paris.
According to him, Bangoura was previously in a relationship with Brigadier-General Amara Camara, Guinea’s Minister of State and Secretary-General of the Presidency, and the pair reportedly have two children together.
Barker-Vormawor alleged that the relationship ended on a bitter note after Bangoura threatened to reveal information she allegedly knew about the senior government official.
He further claimed that she fled Guinea with her siblings out of fear for her safety.
According to the lawyer, Guinean authorities subsequently secured an Interpol Red Notice to facilitate her arrest and return to Guinea.
Barker-Vormawor also stated that Bangoura has informed Ghanaian authorities that returning her to Guinea would endanger her life and that she intends to apply for political asylum in Ghana.
He disclosed that the law firm Merton & Everett LLP has been engaged to represent Bangoura throughout the legal process.
“We trust that due process will be followed in this matter; this time around. A life is at stake,” Barker-Vormawor wrote on social media.
As of the time of publication, Ghanaian authorities had not publicly commented on the alleged arrest or the claims surrounding the Interpol request.
