An Accra Circuit Court has granted GH¢200,000 bail to Prince Aboagye, a 38-year-old branch organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Agona West Constituency, after he was arraigned over alleged offensive comments against former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
The court, on Monday, July 20, 2026, admitted Aboagye to bail with three sureties, one of whom is required to justify the bond with landed property.
However, the accused remains in police custody after reportedly failing to meet the bail conditions.
The case follows a viral TikTok video in which Aboagye was allegedly seen making offensive and insulting remarks against Dr Bawumia, who is the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
According to the Ghana Police Service, its attention was drawn to the video on July 18, 2026, leading officers from the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to arrest him on July 19.
The police said Aboagye admitted during his caution statement to making the comments contained in the video.
He was subsequently charged and brought before the Accra Circuit Court.
The widely circulated video allegedly contained accusations against Dr Bawumia involving criminal and personal misconduct, including claims of murder, theft and inappropriate relationships with married women.
The court proceedings continue as investigations into the matter progress.
