South Africa Xenophobia attack

Calls are growing for Ghanaians to boycott South African businesses and products following the evacuation of 300 Ghanaians from South Africa on May 27, 2026.

Many Ghanaians on social media are urging the government to take a tougher stance against South African companies over alleged hostility toward African migrants in the country.

One of the leading voices behind the calls is IMANI Africa Vice President, Kofi Bentil.

He has called on the government not to renew the mining lease of Gold Fields in Tarkwa.

According to him, Ghana should prioritise local interests in response to recent developments in South Africa.

The call has received support from some public figures, including Eric Adjei, Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP).

He argued that Ghana should place greater emphasis on local content policies.

Managing Editor of mynewsgh.com, Stephen Zoure, also supported calls for a boycott of South African products and services.

Political activist Kofi Osei further stated that he would support any demonstration or campaign against South African businesses operating in Ghana.

The calls come amid rising tensions over reports of xenophobic attacks and hostility against African migrants in South Africa.
