Ghana’s Black Stars have arrived in Providence, Rhode Island, to begin the final phase of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The team departed Virginia on Thursday afternoon and landed at T.F. Green International Airport at about 6:00 p.m., ending a week-long training camp in the Washington area.
The Black Stars will use Bryant University in Smithfield as their official base camp before travelling to Toronto on June 15 for their opening Group L match against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field.
Bryant University offers state-of-the-art training facilities, including a 43,000-square-foot field house equipped with recovery and sports medicine resources to support the squad’s preparations.
The team held intensive training sessions at American University and the D.C. United training facility during their stay in Virginia. Their camp concluded with a farewell dinner hosted by the Ghanaian community in Alexandria.
Captain Jordan Ayew expressed confidence ahead of the tournament while calling for support from Ghanaians.
“We have three massive games for us, and we want to make you guys proud, want to make Ghana proud. Obviously, it’s not going to be easy, but with your prayers and your support, hopefully we’ll be successful,” he said.
Head coach Carlos Queiroz’s squad includes Jordan Ayew, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Antoine Semenyo, Kamaldeen Sulemana and Inaki Williams.
However, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mohammed Kudus will miss the tournament after failing to recover from a quad injury suffered in January.
The team’s arrival has generated excitement among Rhode Island’s Ghanaian community, with several cultural and community events planned during their stay, including a Ghana Community and Culture Day on June 20.
Providence Mayor Brett Smiley and Rhode Island General Treasurer James Diossa have both welcomed the team and their supporters to the state.
After facing Panama, Ghana will take on England in Boston on June 23 before concluding their group-stage campaign against Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.
The Black Stars will be aiming to reach the World Cup knockout stages for the first time since their historic run at the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
