Ghana’s Black Princesses produced a strong response to their opening-day defeat, securing a convincing 3-1 victory over the Republic of Korea at the Arena Sosnowiec.
The Ghanaian side started the game with intent, looking determined to take control from the early stages. However, their momentum was disrupted in the 26th minute when Esther Asamoah was forced off with an injury, and Latifa Abesik came on to replace her.
Ghana continued to press for an opening goal and eventually broke the deadlock seven minutes after the restart.
Sarah Nyarko provided the breakthrough spectacularly, unleashing a long-range effort that beat the Korean goalkeeper to put the Black Princesses 1-0 ahead in the 52nd minute.
Ghana needed only three more minutes to extend their advantage.
Ivy Osei Owusu showed composure in front of goal, lifting the ball over the goalkeeper to double Ghana’s lead and put the Black Princesses firmly in control at 2-0.
With South Korea struggling to contain Ghana’s attacking pressure, the Black Princesses kept creating chances as they searched for a third goal.
Their persistence paid off in the 84th minute when Ruth Amponsah found the back of the net to make it 3-0.
South Korea managed to score a consolation goal deep into stoppage time, finding the net in the fifth minute of added time.
There was, however, little time for a comeback as Ghana comfortably held on to secure the 3-1 victory.
The result represents an impressive response from the Black Princesses following their opening-day setback and gives them a much-needed boost as they continue their campaign.
