Preaching in the Ability to See series on the Nkwagye Kwan radio program, Dr Kuuku Dadzie Ephraim said people should not use Jesus Christ’s miracle at the wedding in Cana as an excuse to consume alcohol, insisting that the water Jesus turned into wine was not intoxicating alcohol.
He explained that the drink produced by the Lord Jesus was sweet, non-alcoholic fruit juice meant to reveal the difference between earthly joy and the greater joy of heaven.
Dr Kuuku Dadzie pointed out that Jesus, knowing the harmful effects of alcohol, would not produce a drink that would lead people into destructive behaviour, urging those seeking joy not to justify alcohol consumption with the miracle at Cana.
He warned that rejecting what he described as God’s word about alcohol has led many people into shameful acts, including rape, sexual immorality, violence, fighting, abuse and reckless behaviour after losing their sense of sound judgment.
Referring to the biblical account of King Belshazzar, Dr Kuuku Dadzie said alcohol affected the king’s judgment and contributed to his disrespect for God which caused him to lose his kingdom and life in one night.
He concluded by warning that alcohol has also brought disgrace and downfall to rulers and leaders, citing cases where people under its influence made serious mistakes, insulted others and ultimately lost their kingdoms.
