Ghana international Mohammed Kudus has returned to action for Tottenham Hotspur after a seven-month injury absence, making his comeback during Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Kudus was introduced in the 68th minute by manager Roberto De Zerbi, replacing Mathys Tel as Tottenham searched for a way back into the game.

However, the Ghanaian could not inspire a comeback as Newcastle held on for victory, with Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa scoring to secure all three points for the visitors.

The 26-year-old had been sidelined since suffering an injury in Tottenham’s match against Sunderland on January 4, 2026.

His recovery was further delayed after he suffered a relapse in April, extending his time away from competitive football.

Kudus ultimately missed 237 days and 25 matches for Tottenham across all competitions. His lengthy absence also meant he missed Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.

His return came after De Zerbi confirmed before the Newcastle game that Kudus would be part of the matchday squad.

The midfielder had resumed individual training in early August before gradually joining full team sessions as he completed the final stages of his rehabilitation.

Although his return represents a major boost for Tottenham and the Ghana national team, Kudus will now need time to regain his fitness, rhythm and match sharpness after such a long spell on the sidelines.

Tottenham’s defeat also means they have now suffered consecutive losses at the start of the new campaign, increasing the pressure on De Zerbi and his squad to turn their fortunes around.
