Deputy Attorney-General Justice Srem-Sai has revealed that the bankers of former National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) Chief Executive Officer, Hanan Aludiba, alerted investigators after he allegedly attempted to access funds in a bank account that had been frozen by court order.
According to Justice Srem-Sai, the prosecution did not monitor Aludiba’s banking activities but was contacted by the financial institution after it detected what it considered a suspicious attempt to restore access to the account.
Speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues on Sunday, July 26, 2026, he dismissed claims that investigators had been intruding into the former NAFCO CEO’s private financial affairs.
“We don’t work at the bank. It was his own bankers who alerted us that, ‘There is something going on here that we don’t think is right.’ That is how we got to know. That’s how we took the steps. It wasn’t as if we were just nosing around,” Justice Srem-Sai said.
He explained that Aludiba, despite being aware that the account had been frozen by a court order, allegedly attempted to convince the bank to lift the restrictions.
According to the Deputy Attorney-General, the bank refused the request and immediately informed investigators, prompting prosecutors to take further action.
“Our suspicion, of course, is that it was an attempt because the bank stopped it. They did not comply with his request and they called us in. So, we can only say that it was an attempt. We believe that it was an attempt,” he stated.
Justice Srem-Sai said the incident reinforced the prosecution’s belief that Aludiba posed a higher flight risk than previously assessed, especially after investigators also became aware of his travel plans, including reports about the amount of luggage he intended to carry on a planned trip to the United Kingdom.
He also dismissed reports suggesting that a court had later granted Aludiba permission to travel, insisting that the initial period approved by the court had already expired and that no fresh application for travel had been filed or approved.
