A 40-year-old woman, Theresa Sungbung, has been remanded into police custody by the Damongo Circuit Court after allegedly attempting to bribe police officers with GH¢300,000 following her arrest.
According to a report by adomonline.com published on July 20, 2026, Sungbung was arrested on July 13 at the Banda-Nkwanta Police Checkpoint after officers intercepted 84 parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in her possession.
Investigators said the suspect told police she was transporting the suspected narcotics to Signye, an illegal mining site in the Bole District, before continuing to the Upper West Region to deliver another consignment.
She was subsequently arraigned before the Damongo Circuit Court, where Judge Livingston Lartey Yao Ameevor ordered that she be remanded into police custody.
The accused is expected to return to court on July 28, 2026, as investigations continue.
Bole District Police Commander ASP Mahadi Mensah said efforts are underway to arrest other individuals believed to be connected to the case.
“The police are working to arrest other persons believed to be connected to the case,” he said.
ASP Mensah also advised commercial drivers to be vigilant about the passengers they transport and the goods loaded onto their vehicles, urging them to take precautions to avoid becoming unknowingly involved in criminal activities.
