24-Hour Economy, Ghana courts Canadian investors

Ghana has called on Canadian investors to tap into opportunities under its industrial transformation agenda and use the country as a gateway to the African market.

The appeal was made during the Ghana-Canada Investment Forum held on June 15, 2026, at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto, Canada.

The forum brought together about 135 participants, including government officials, diplomats, business leaders and investment stakeholders from both countries to discuss trade, investment and economic cooperation.

The event was organised by the GHFA Global Investment Forum Initiative in collaboration with Strategic Communications Africa Limited (Stratcomm Africa) and Kwakaf International.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Stratcomm Africa, Esther A. N. Cobbah, said Ghana’s long-standing relationship with Canada provides a strong platform for deeper economic collaboration.

She cited previous partnerships, including technical support from Petro-Canada International Assistance Corporation to the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), and encouraged Canadian businesses to see Ghana as an entry point to the wider African market.

“Ghana is a stepping stone towards a wider engagement with the African continent,” she said, adding that Canada has the opportunity to strengthen partnerships across both Anglophone and Francophone Africa.

Delivering the keynote address on behalf of Chief of Staff Dr Julius Debrah, Ras Mubarak highlighted the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme.

He said the initiative aims to increase productivity in sectors such as manufacturing, agro-processing, logistics, energy and tourism.

“Ghana is open for business like never before,” he said, inviting Canadian investors to contribute capital, technology and expertise to support the programme.

Mubarak also noted that Ghana offers investors access to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which serves a market of more than 1.5 billion people.

The forum featured discussions on investment opportunities, economic reforms, supply chain innovation, diaspora engagement and tourism-led growth.

Speakers called for stronger financial management, credible business partnerships and improved artificial intelligence literacy among Ghanaian youth to drive long-term economic development.

Universal Merchant Bank and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), sponsors of the event, were recognised for supporting efforts to promote Ghana’s investment opportunities globally.

The forum concluded with a networking session where Ghanaian and Canadian participants explored potential business partnerships.

Organisers said follow-up engagements with Canadian investors and members of the Ghanaian diaspora in Canada will be held in the coming months to advance discussions initiated at the forum.

Following the event, organisers hosted the Canada Royal Gala in honour of His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, with proceeds supporting the Ga Mantse Foundation’s cultural preservation and philanthropic initiatives.
