Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, arguing that it has failed to introduce any meaningful social intervention programme since assuming office.
According to him, after 18 months in government, the NDC cannot point to a single intervention that has created opportunities for young people or significantly improved livelihoods.
Speaking at a gathering of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON), Afenyo-Markin accused the government of cancelling programmes that supported private sector growth without providing viable alternatives.
“So you ask yourself that one and a half years of this NDC government, they should tell us a single social intervention programme that they have implemented which implementation is creating opportunity for the youth,” he said.
The Minority Leader argued that the government’s policies have left the private sector struggling.
“In fact, the 1D1F that they cancelled, in its place, there is no alternative, so the private sector has been left without any hope,” he stated.
Afenyo-Markin also acknowledged the recent stability of the Ghana cedi but questioned whether the economic sacrifices required to achieve that stability were worthwhile.
He maintained that while exchange rate stability is important, it should not come at the expense of job creation and private sector development.
