At least 15 people have lost their lives and 25 others have been injured following a devastating head-on collision between a passenger bus and a container truck at Peki-Tsame in the Volta Region.
The tragic accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, June 2, 2026, near Peki Senior High School.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the crash involved a Mercedes-Benz container truck travelling from Nkwanta to Accra and a Mercedes-Benz passenger bus heading from Battor to Kabiti in the Oti Region.
Firefighters from the Peki Fire Station rushed to the scene and carried out a rescue operation to save trapped victims.
“A total of 40 persons were involved, comprising 21 males, 15 females and four children,” the GNFS said in a statement.
The service disclosed that 25 injured victims, including two children, were rescued from the wreckage and transported to the Peki Government Hospital for treatment.
Sadly, 15 people died in the crash, including nine men and six women.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital mortuary, while police begin investigations into the cause of the accident.
The Ghana National Fire Service has expressed condolences to the affected families and urged motorists to obey traffic regulations and avoid reckless driving.
The latest tragedy adds to growing concerns over road safety in Ghana following a series of fatal crashes recorded across the country in recent weeks.
