A man who raised a child for 10 years is demanding GH¢250,000 in compensation after a DNA test confirmed he is not the child’s biological father.

According to reports, Emmanuel Ampomah says he suffered years of emotional pain, humiliation and public embarrassment after believing the child was his, only to discover the truth through a DNA test.

The paternity dispute resurfaced after his former wife, Emelia Nimo, appeared on a television programme and claimed medical reports during their marriage suggested Emmanuel could not father a child.

She admitted that pressure to have a baby led her into another relationship, which resulted in the child’s birth. Emelia also claimed she informed Emmanuel about the child’s true paternity a year after birth and that he asked her to keep it secret.

However, the controversy continued for years until a DNA test was conducted, confirming that Emmanuel is not the biological father.

Reacting to the results, an emotional Emmanuel said he embraced the child as his own and fulfilled his responsibilities as a father for a decade.

“I accepted the child wholeheartedly and took responsibility as a father for ten years. Now everyone knows I was deceived,” he said.

He explained that the emotional and psychological impact of the revelation has been more painful than the financial cost of raising the child.

“I have suffered emotionally and psychologically. That is why I am demanding GH¢250,000,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the man alleged to be the biological father has reportedly refused to accept responsibility until an independent DNA test is conducted, with family members insisting other individuals have also claimed paternity of the child.
