Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has assured that no Ghanaian in South Africa who wishes to return home will be excluded from the planned evacuation exercise.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, May 22, 2026, the Foreign Affairs Minister praised Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Benjamin Quarshie, for locating Sylvester Boakye, a Ghanaian who reportedly missed an updated evacuation notice and was the only person who went to O.R. Tambo International Airport on Wednesday, May 21.

According to Ablakwa, Boakye will still be included in the broader evacuation plan, which is expected to assist about 800 Ghanaians in returning home.

“No Ghanaian desirous of returning home would be left behind,” the minister stated.

Ablakwa also dismissed reports that Boakye had already been flown back to Ghana, calling the claims false.

He explained that Ghana had not yet deployed any chartered flight for the evacuation exercise.

According to him, the process was temporarily delayed after discussions with South African authorities to resolve legal and technical issues related to the operation.

The Foreign Affairs Minister added that efforts are ongoing to ensure the evacuation exercise is properly coordinated and successful.

“Truth stands; and truth always wins,” he added.
