The Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, says government is pushing for year-round tomato production to cut Ghana’s reliance on imports and prevent future risks to traders.
The announcement follows the killing of Ghanaian tomato traders in Burkina Faso, where they had travelled to buy tomatoes. Speaking during a visit to injured traders at the 37 Military Hospital on February 23, the Minister described the incident as disturbing and avoidable.
She stressed that boosting local tomato production will protect lives, strengthen food security, and reduce dangerous cross-border trade.
