The Tarkwa Circuit Court has sentenced 23-year-old Enock Appiah, also known as “Odanka,” to 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for attacking and robbing a food vendor in Adjakaa Manso, Western Region.
Appiah, who is unemployed, pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and robbery. Justice Mercy Adei Kotei, a High Court Judge sitting with additional responsibility as a Circuit Court Judge, convicted him based on his plea. He received three years for unlawful entry and 15 years for robbery, with the sentences set to run concurrently.
According to ASP Joseph Lartey, prosecuting, the complainant, Aisha Ayaba, and Appiah lived in the same neighbourhood. On January 27, 2026, at around 3:00 a.m., Ayaba saw Appiah hiding behind her door. When she confronted him, he struck her neck with a hammer, pushed her against the door, and fled with her Infinix Smart and Tecno POP 8 mobile phones valued at GH¢2,700.
Ayaba reported the incident to the police, leading to Appiah’s arrest at his hideout. The stolen phones were recovered, though their SIM cards had been removed. During interrogation, Appiah admitted to the crime, pleaded for forgiveness, and guided investigators to the exact spot where he attempted to enter and stole the phones.
The court ordered that the recovered phones be returned to Ayaba. The hammer used in the attack was forfeited to the Republic and handed over to the Ghana Police Service, Western Central Regional Command.
