The National Identification Authority (NIA) is set to create more than 120 jobs as it expands its 24-hour Prestige Centres across the country to make Ghana Card services more accessible.
The initiative is expected to see more than 20 centres established in various parts of Ghana, allowing people to access identification services beyond the Authority’s usual working hours.
Executive Secretary of the NIA, Wisdom Kwaku Deku, announced the expansion on Wednesday, August 12, during a tour of the Authority’s first 24-hour Prestige Centre in Accra.
He said two additional centres would be opened in Kumasi over the weekend, with more facilities expected to be introduced in other parts of the country.
The centres will operate on a three-shift system to keep services running around the clock. Among the services to be offered are first-time Ghana Card registration, replacement of lost or damaged cards and updates to personal information.
“We are opening about 20 centres and we hope to create over 120 employment opportunities through private entities who have applied for the NIA Prestige Centre,” Deku said.
He explained that the partnership with private operators would allow the NIA to extend its services to more communities while creating new employment opportunities.
The 24-hour arrangement is also expected to make it easier for people whose work schedules prevent them from visiting NIA offices during regular working hours.
Those who need services at weekends, as well as individuals requiring urgent card replacements or updates to their records, are expected to benefit from the extended operating hours.
Deku said the growing importance of the Ghana Card makes it necessary for the NIA to provide more convenient and flexible access to its services across the country.
