A 32-year-old man has been taken into police custody following the death of a Good Samaritan who tried to intervene in a domestic dispute in Mahamo Village, Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.
The Western Central Regional Police Command has launched a murder investigation into the incident, which occurred on Saturday, February 7, 2026. The suspect, John Asiedu, allegedly attacked the deceased, Noah Ansa, also 32, a native of Gomo Achiase in the Central Region, after he attempted to separate Asiedu and his wife, Gifty Yoke, during a heated argument.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Beatrice Turkson, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, the suspect reportedly went to Ansa’s residence armed with a piece of wood and inflicted multiple injuries to the left side of his head.
Ansa was initially rushed to Mahamo Clinic at around 10:20 a.m. on February 7, treated, and discharged. However, his condition worsened the following day, and he was readmitted to the clinic, where he tragically passed away shortly after arrival. His body has been deposited at Apinto Government Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Police have met with the family, who identified the body and were briefed on the investigation. John Asiedu was arrested by village committee members with bloodstains on his clothes and handed over to the Benso Police Station, where he remains in custody assisting with investigations.
ASP Turkson clarified that Asiedu has not yet been formally charged, stating that appropriate charges will depend on the outcome of investigations and advice from the Attorney General’s Department. Evidence is being reviewed, and an autopsy has been requested to support the case.
The Police Command used the incident to remind the public to resolve disputes through lawful means rather than resorting to violence. ASP Turkson assured residents that there is no immediate threat to public safety, as the suspect remains in custody and the situation is under control.
The Western Central Regional Police Command has promised to provide further updates as the investigation continues.
