Ghana international Mohammed Kudus will now work under a new manager at Tottenham Hotspur following the club’s decision to part ways with Thomas Frank.
Frank was dismissed after just under eight months in charge, following a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle. Tottenham currently sit 16th in the Premier League, only five points above the relegation zone, amid their longest winless league run since October 2008. The team has won just two of its last 17 league matches, earning only 12 points during that period.
Frank had been appointed head coach in June after the sacking of Ange Postecoglou, signing a contract through 2028. Despite strong performances in Europe, including leading Spurs to automatic qualification for the Champions League last 16, Frank struggled to improve the team’s domestic league form. Tottenham are also out of both domestic cup competitions, having been eliminated by Newcastle in the Carabao Cup fourth round and Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round.
Fan unrest grew during Frank’s tenure, with supporters openly chanting against him during matches against West Ham and Burnley. The coach was booed off at half-time while trailing Manchester City 2-0, though Spurs recovered to draw 2-2. Captain Cristian Romero criticized the board for fielding just 11 fit senior players against City, highlighting ongoing squad issues.
The team’s Champions League form was better, winning five, drawing two, and losing only once in the group stage, with the sole defeat coming against holders Paris Saint-Germain. However, Premier League results have been inconsistent, including heavy defeats to rivals Arsenal (4-1) and relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest (3-0).
Injuries have hampered Tottenham’s season, with key players such as Lucas Bergvall, Ben Davies, Richarlison, Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski, and James Maddison sidelined. Suspended captain Romero will also miss the next three league matches, including the north London derby against Arsenal on 22 February.
Frank, 52, had previously spent seven years at Brentford, guiding the club from the Championship to the Premier League in 2021. His tenure at Spurs began with a UEFA Super Cup defeat on penalties to PSG, following Tottenham’s Europa League triumph under Postecoglou. Despite a promising start in league and European competition, Frank was unable to maintain momentum, and his style of play failed to win over supporters.
Mohammed Kudus and his teammates now face a critical period under new leadership as Tottenham look to stabilize their Premier League form and avoid the threat of relegation.
