President John Dramani Mahama has ordered all Chief Executive Officers of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) to submit their audited financial statements and annual reports by the end of April 2026, cautioning that sanctions await those who fail to comply.

The President issued the directive while addressing members of the Ghanaian community in Zambia on Wednesday, February 4.

President Mahama expressed concern that several SOEs have failed to meet their statutory reporting obligations for many years, a situation he said has weakened transparency and accountability in the public sector.

“Some state-owned enterprises have not produced annual reports for seven or eight years, even though it is a legal requirement,” he stated.

Describing the practice as unacceptable, the President stressed that his administration would no longer tolerate non-compliance. He explained that firm timelines had been established to restore discipline and proper oversight within public institutions.

“By the end of April, which is the target date, every SOE must have completed its audits and presented its annual reports. Woe betide any chief executive who fails to do so,” he warned.

Although no specific penalties were outlined, President Mahama’s comments signalled that decisive action would be taken against heads of state enterprises who disregard the directive, underscoring his government’s commitment to accountability and good governance.
