The government is set to lay a bill before Parliament seeking approval to rename Kotoka International Airport as Accra International Airport, the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has announced.

Mr Ayariga made the disclosure on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, during a Parliamentary Leadership media briefing, where he outlined key bills and regulations expected to be considered during the current parliamentary meeting.

According to him, the Minister for Transport will present the bill to Parliament as part of the ministry’s legislative agenda for the session, which commenced on Tuesday.

He explained that under parliamentary procedure, any change to the name of a state-owned facility requires parliamentary approval before it can take legal effect.

Kotoka International Airport is Ghana’s main international aviation hub, serving as the country’s primary gateway for passenger travel, cargo operations, and diplomatic movements. Any renaming would therefore necessitate amendments to official government records, aviation documentation, and related statutory instruments.

Mr Ayariga did not indicate when the bill would be formally laid before the House but confirmed that it forms part of the Transport Ministry’s legislative business for the ongoing session.
