The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced planned works on the 330kV Takoradi–Thermal–Anwomaso Transmission Line to facilitate the connection of a new power generation plant at Anwomaso in Kumasi to the national grid.
The announcement comes after parts of Greater Kumasi experienced a temporary power outage on Sunday, December 21, 2025, following a minor fault at GRIDCo that resulted in reduced electricity supply to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
In a press statement issued on the same day, GRIDCo explained that the works are being carried out by AKSA Energy as part of efforts to bring its newly constructed Anwomaso power generation plant into operation.
GRIDCo noted that once fully commissioned, the plant will increase Ghana’s power generation capacity and significantly enhance the reliability of electricity supply to Kumasi and its surrounding communities.
As part of the commissioning process, technical activities are underway to safely connect the AKSA Anwomaso Generating Plant to the national power system through the 330kV transmission line. The company cautioned that the exercise may necessitate a temporary power interruption of about three hours for some customers to enable the safe integration of the new substation.
According to GRIDCo, power supply to all affected areas is expected to be fully restored by 11:00 p.m. on the same day.
The company apologised for any inconvenience the temporary outages may cause and assured the public that the works are essential to improving the stability and reliability of electricity supply in Kumasi and neighbouring areas.
