Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has refuted claims that the government has halted engagement with medical drone delivery company Zipline, stating that discussions remain active as part of a broader effort to reassess the contract and guarantee value for public spending.

Speaking during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, December 1, the Minister said the Ministry of Health has already held several meetings with Zipline and continues to review both the financial and operational components of the service.

“Contrary to reports that we are not engaging Zipline, that is not true. We have met more than three times and are still in discussions to ensure the services provide value for money,” he clarified. He added that this aligns with the President’s directive for all ministries to ensure prudent management of state resources.

The ongoing negotiations come amid reports that Zipline intends to shut down three of its delivery centres due to an outstanding government debt of GH¢174 million.

In a related development, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has called for the complete termination of the contract. He argues that the agreement has not demonstrated sufficient value to justify its cost and suggests that the drone programme may be an unnecessary burden on the national purse.

The Ministry maintains that its assessment will ensure accountability and protect the public interest as deliberations with Zipline continue.
