Police have arrested four suspects in connection with the murder of Nana Owusu Korkor, the destooled Akwamuhene of Tanoso, whose death has sent shockwaves through the Akwamu Traditional Area.

The suspects — identified as Issifu Addae, also known as Akwasi Addae, 48; Stephen Gyamfi, 55; Augustine Arhinful, 42; and Martha Mansah, 65 — were apprehended between Monday, November 10, and Tuesday, November 11, 2025. They are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

Police sources say all four have denied involvement in the killing during initial interrogation. Preliminary findings reveal that the late Nana Owusu Korkor had been destooled as Akwamuhene and replaced by Nana Akyeampong Duodu. However, the deceased reportedly rejected his removal and became embroiled in several legal disputes with the royal family.

Investigators further disclosed that Nana Owusu Korkor had faced allegations of misappropriating five gold bars belonging to the royal family and selling family land to a private developer after his destoolment.

According to police reports, suspects Issifu Addae, Stephen Gyamfi, and two others allegedly confronted the developer on the disputed land, seized a block-moulding machine, and threatened to “teach the deceased a lesson.”

Authorities are also investigating possible involvement of the newly installed Akwamuhene, Nana Akyeampong Duodu, who reportedly travelled to the United States around the time of the killing — a move investigators believe may have been an attempt to establish an alibi.

Police say investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be arraigned once inquiries are complete.
