The Member of Parliament for Pusiga, Hajia Laadi Ayii Ayamba, has described the tragic incident during the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium—which claimed the lives of six young women—as an event ordained by Allah.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, the MP expressed deep sorrow over the deaths but urged families of the victims and the public to find comfort in faith.
“It is very painful to have our children go for recruitment only for us to lose them,” she said. “But I want us all to take solace in the Almighty Allah. There’s nothing that happens that doesn’t happen at the right time. This is what Allah has ordained for them.”
The tragic incident occurred when thousands of young Ghanaians gathered at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra to participate in the GAF enlistment exercise. The massive turnout led to overcrowding and intense jostling at the gates, triggering a stampede that resulted in multiple injuries and fatalities.
The MP’s emotional comments have drawn mixed reactions, with some expressing sympathy for her faith-based perspective and others calling for stronger safety measures to prevent such tragedies in future recruitment processes.
The incident has reignited public concern over crowd management and emergency preparedness during large-scale national recruitment exercises.
