In an era of rapid technological advancement, cybersecurity is no longer a technical afterthought but a business-critical priority, according to Jacqueline Hanson-Kotei, Senior Manager of Enterprise Information Security and Governance at MTN Ghana.

Speaking at the MTN Cybersecurity Forum held at the company’s Kaase office in Kumasi, Hanson-Kotei highlighted the growing risks in today’s digital landscape, driven by the widespread use of online transactions, social media, and digital communication tools.

“Cybersecurity is no longer just a technical issue—it’s a business imperative,” she stated.

She noted that while digital technologies offer countless benefits, they also expose individuals and organizations to a rising number of cyber threats, including data breaches, phishing attacks, and ransomware.

A Call for Proactive Measures

Hanson-Kotei stressed the need for both businesses and individuals to take proactive steps to safeguard their digital assets. She called for increased awareness, regular risk assessments, and the implementation of strong access controls.

“With the rise in cyberattacks, it’s essential for everyone to prioritize cybersecurity—not just for their own safety, but to protect customers and stakeholders as well,” she emphasized.

“People need to build capacity and allocate the necessary resources to tackle cybersecurity challenges,” she said. “This includes everything from risk assessments to staff training and proper governance frameworks.”

As a leading telecommunications provider, MTN Ghana has taken a proactive role in educating customers and partners on best practices for online safety. Hanson-Kotei reiterated the company’s commitment to building a more secure digital ecosystem.
