South African women chased from Mozambique beach

Two South African women have been confronted and reportedly chased from a beach bar in Mozambique in an incident believed to be linked to the ongoing xenophobic attacks against foreign nationals in South Africa.

A video circulating on social media shows the women engaged in a heated exchange with a Mozambican beach bar owner, who questioned why they had chosen to visit Mozambique instead of holidaying in their own country.

“Why are you coming into Mozambique? Why are you not going to Cape Town? Go back,” the bar owner is heard saying in the video.

The two women responded by insisting they were paying customers before making remarks that have drawn widespread criticism.

“We are here to visit, we pay you money, unlike you people. You guys are our helpers at home,” they said.

The comments have sparked outrage online, with many social media users condemning the women’s remarks while also expressing concern over rising xenophobic sentiments across the region.

The incident comes amid growing tensions following a fresh wave of xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals in South Africa, including Ghanaians.

It also follows reports claiming that a planned state visit by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to Ghana had been declined, an assertion the South African government has denied.
