A mother has reportedly caused the arrest of her son after accusing him of taking GH¢28,000, a television, a refrigerator and other household items and allegedly giving them to his girlfriend.

The woman, identified as Auntie Ama, disclosed during an appearance on a domestic affairs programme on Lawson TV.

According to her, she lost her Ghana Card during a fire outbreak at their home, leaving her dependent on her son, Samuel, for transactions that required identification.

She said she later entrusted Samuel with GH¢28,000 to carry out a business transaction on her behalf.

However, Samuel reportedly returned several days later claiming that the money had been stolen from him.

Auntie Ama said she became suspicious of his explanation and decided to involve the authorities.

She alleged that during questioning, Samuel eventually admitted that the money had not been stolen but had been given to his girlfriend, along with some household appliances.

“It was during interrogation at this point that he opened up that he had a girlfriend at Berekum and he had given her the money, as well as my brand-new fridge, a TV set and decoder,” she said.

Samuel, who also appeared on the programme, admitted giving the money and items to the woman identified as Maame Yaa.

He explained that the pair met through social media before developing a romantic relationship.

“I met her on TikTok and after engaging her, I took her number and that is where we started the relationship,” he said.

When asked what attracted him to Maame Yaa in the first place, Samuel pointed to her physical appearance, particularly her bowed legs.

The incident has sparked discussion over the lengths some people may go to support romantic partners, particularly when property or funds entrusted to them are involved.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged theft and the subsequent recovery of the money and household items remain unclear.
