A family in Assin Fosu in the Central Region is desperately trying to raise GH¢30,500 after suspected kidnappers threatened to kill a 30-year-old man they are holding captive.
The victim, identified as Bismark Amoh, was reportedly abducted on Sunday, September 6, 2026. His captors initially demanded GH¢45,000 and gave his family just 24 hours to raise the money.
The kidnappers are also alleged to have used Bismark’s phone to send disturbing audio and video recordings to his relatives, apparently to hide their own digital trail.
The recordings reportedly show Bismark naked, with his hands, legs and neck tied with heavy ropes while he is repeatedly beaten.
In one of the audio recordings, the 30-year-old is heard crying and pleading with his family to find the money needed to secure his release.
According to a report by Adomonline.com on Thursday, September 10, the family managed to raise GH¢19,500 through support from relatives, friends and members of the community.
The money was subsequently transferred to the alleged kidnappers, but the payment did not lead to Bismark’s release.
Instead, the captors reportedly increased the ransom to GH¢49,500, leaving the family with an additional GH¢30,500 to raise.
The kidnappers are said to have issued another eight-hour ultimatum, threatening to kill Bismark, burn his remains and destroy his mobile devices if the additional amount was not paid.
The situation has become more complicated following another audio recording in which an unidentified woman allegedly accuses Bismark of defrauding individuals connected to the case.
Police have not yet established the identity of the woman, verified the allegations or determined whether the alleged financial dispute has any link to Bismark’s abduction.
The family has formally reported the incident to the Cybercrime Unit of the Central North Regional Police Command.
Regional authorities have since confirmed that an intensive operation is underway, involving the National CID and the Cybercrime Unit at Police Headquarters.
Investigators are reportedly using digital forensic methods to trace the WhatsApp communications used by the kidnappers and establish the identities of those behind the abduction.
Police have appealed to anyone with credible information about Bismark’s whereabouts or the identity of his alleged captors to report to the nearest police station.
As the search continues, the family remains under pressure to secure Bismark’s safe return while investigators work to trace those responsible for his disappearance.
