The father of late Berekum Chelsea player Dominic Frimpong has questioned the circumstances surrounding his son’s death, alleging that a gunshot did not kill the 20-year-old during an attack on the club’s team bus.

In an interview with Fakye TV, Nana Frimpong said he saw no evidence of gunshot wounds on his son’s body, leading him to doubt the account of the incident.

“My son was not shot, I believe he was killed. There were no signs or evidence of gunshot wounds on his body,” he said.

He also accused Berekum Chelsea, claiming the club used his son as a “sacrifice” to avoid relegation from the Ghana Premier League.

“I believe Berekum Chelsea used my son as a sacrifice in their fight to avoid relegation. Even if they offer you GH₵30 billion, don’t allow your son to go and play for Berekum Chelsea. They will kill him,” he alleged.

The claims, made during the television interview, raise questions from the father about the circumstances of the young footballer’s death. However, the allegations against the club have not been established by the information provided, and no evidence has been presented to substantiate his claim that his son was deliberately killed.

What happened to Dominic Frimpong?

Frimpong died in April 2026 after armed men reportedly attacked the Berekum Chelsea team bus on the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District.

The team was returning from a Ghana Premier League fixture against FC Samartex when the incident occurred.

Police said six armed men, three of whom were carrying pump-action guns, attacked the bus transporting about 30 players and officials.

According to the account of the incident, the attackers opened fire as the driver attempted to escape. Another victim was reportedly robbed of GH₵4,500.

Two suspects were subsequently arrested in connection with the attack.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and police have maintained that Frimpong died following the armed robbery attack, while investigations into the incident continued.

Nana Frimpong’s latest comments present a different account of the circumstances surrounding his son’s death. His claims, however, do not in themselves establish that the footballer was deliberately killed or that Berekum Chelsea was involved.

The circumstances of Frimpong’s death remain a sensitive issue, with his father’s allegations adding to calls for clarity about what happened during the attack.
