Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator and spokesperson for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has been released from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after satisfying his GH¢50 million bail conditions.
Aboagye regained his freedom after spending three days in detention following his arrest at the Accra International Airport over ongoing investigations into alleged financial and procurement irregularities during his tenure as Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).
Videos circulating on social media showed Aboagye, dressed in a white shirt, leaving the EOCO headquarters with assistance as jubilant NPP supporters gathered outside the premises and cheered his release.
His legal team had earlier argued that the GH¢50 million bail conditions, which required three sureties, were excessively stringent and difficult to meet within a short period. EOCO has not disclosed how the bail requirements were eventually fulfilled.
The anti-graft agency is investigating allegations of misappropriation, misapplication, diversion, and theft of approximately GH¢55 million during Aboagye’s tenure at IMCCoD.
EOCO has stressed that Aboagye’s release on bail does not bring the case to a close, noting that investigations into the alleged offences are still ongoing.
