A Ghanaian woman, Doris, has fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a mother after giving birth to her first child at the age of 61 through enhanced in vitro fertilisation (IVF).
Her remarkable journey has drawn comparisons to the biblical story of Sarah, who gave birth to Isaac in old age after years of waiting.
After decades of battling childlessness, enduring societal pressure and holding on to hope, Doris welcomed a baby girl, describing the moment as the greatest blessing of her life.
Speaking on her 62nd birthday, just five days after giving birth, she reflected on the challenges she overcame on her path to motherhood.
Doris revealed that she underwent multiple surgeries to remove fibroids but never abandoned her dream of having a child.
Despite discouragement from some relatives and the many obstacles she encountered, she said prayer and faith kept her going throughout the journey.
She also acknowledged the support of her spiritual father, Prophet Nana Degraft, whom she said stood by her throughout the process.
The new mother further expressed gratitude to the medical team that guided her through the IVF procedure, pregnancy and delivery, praising their professionalism and dedication.
“I don’t feel ashamed because this is the doing of the Lord,” she said.
Offering words of encouragement to women struggling with infertility, Doris urged them not to lose hope.
“For women who are so desperate, who are crying, please don’t give up,” she said.
