Ghana international Antoine Semenyo could be handed a new attacking role at Manchester City if the club is forced to cope without Erling Haaland during the season.
With Haaland currently the only recognised natural centre-forward in the squad, City could face a shortage of options in the position should their Norwegian star become unavailable through injury or suspension.
Semenyo has now emerged as a potential solution because of his versatility and ability to operate in several attacking positions.
The Ghanaian has primarily played as a winger or forward, but his pace, strength, direct style and willingness to run at defenders could make him an effective temporary option through the middle.
Rather than relying on a traditional target man, City could use Semenyo’s movement and physical presence to give their attack a different dimension if Haaland is unable to play.
Haaland remains the club’s first-choice striker and a key figure in their attacking system. However, the lack of another established centre-forward means City may have to find alternative solutions if their main striker misses an extended period.
Semenyo’s adaptability could therefore become particularly important as the campaign progresses.
The Ghana international joined Manchester City during the January transfer window and quickly became an important part of the squad.
He also played a significant role in City’s successful campaign last season, contributing as the club lifted both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
With his ability to operate across the frontline, Semenyo could provide City with valuable cover in the centre-forward position while still offering the pace and directness that have become key parts of his game.
His potential deployment as an emergency striker would give the club another attacking option without necessarily requiring a major change to their overall approach.
