President John Dramani Mahama has prepared a “special package” for the Black Stars in recognition of their performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Ablakwa announced during a visit to the team’s camp in Rhode Island on Thursday as part of a high-powered government delegation led by Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Smith.
The delegation, which also included Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams and businessman-philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama, met the players and technical staff ahead of Ghana’s decisive Group L clash against Croatia.
Addressing the squad, Ablakwa conveyed a message from President Mahama, describing the President as one of the team’s biggest supporters.
“I bring you warm greetings from His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama, who, as you know, is your ardent fan,” he told the players.
He commended the Black Stars for their performances so far in the tournament and assured them that Ghanaians were proud of their efforts.
Ablakwa also disclosed that President Mahama had put together a special package for the team, which would be unveiled after the tournament.
“The President has asked me to tell you that he has a special package for you when the World Cup is over. So keep making Ghana proud, stay focused, and continue giving your best,” he said.
The Black Stars have enjoyed a positive start to their World Cup campaign, opening with a 1-0 victory over Panama before holding England to a goalless draw.
Ghana will face Croatia in their final Group L fixture, knowing that a positive result could secure a place in the knockout stage of the tournament.
