Ipswich Town are reportedly on the verge of signing Ghana international Abdul Fatawu from Leicester City after the two clubs reached a verbal agreement on a deal worth £20 million.
According to the East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star, the transfer is expected to be completed before Ipswich travel to Spain for their pre-season training camp next week.
Talks between the clubs gathered pace after Ipswich’s opening bid was rejected on Friday. However, negotiations continued, with both sides now reportedly agreeing on a fee for the 22-year-old Ghana winger, who has made 32 appearances for the Black Stars.
Fatawu had attracted interest from several clubs during the transfer window. Premier League side Everton were reported to have agreed personal terms with the winger, while West Ham United and Turkish club Beşiktaş were also linked with a move.
Despite that competition, Ipswich now appears to have moved ahead in the race for his signature, with manager Kieran McKenna set to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the new campaign.
Fatawu initially joined Leicester City on loan from Sporting CP in 2023 before the transfer was made permanent following the Foxes’ promotion to the Premier League.
Since then, he has grown into one of Ghana’s key attacking players and will be aiming to make an immediate impact at Portman Road if the transfer is finalised.
