Ranking Member on Parliament’s Finance Committee, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, has criticised the government’s 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review, arguing that it highlights the administration’s struggles to address Ghana’s economic challenges.
Speaking to journalists after Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson presented the review to Parliament on Thursday, July 24, 2026, the former Finance Minister said the figures contained in the document contradicted the government’s claims of economic progress.
Dr Amin Adam, who is also the Member of Parliament for Karaga, contended that the government’s economic narrative had shifted because it was now being confronted with realities it could no longer ignore.
“The Minister tried his best to do what he does best, which is propaganda, but his own data gave him out, and his own data showed that the honeymoon is over and they are now faced with reality,” he said.
According to him, the budget review failed to present sufficient policies and programmes capable of bringing meaningful improvements to the lives of Ghanaians.
He described the document as lacking substance and repeated his criticism that it contained more promises than practical solutions.
“This budget is empty, and because it has no meat and they have no story, the Minister resorted to the blame game,” Dr Amin Adam stated.
The former Finance Minister further accused the government of continuing to blame the previous administration instead of focusing on delivering on its campaign promises.
“They have been doing this blame game from the time they assumed office in 2025, and after 18 months in government, they are still doing the blame game,” he added.
Dr Amin Adam urged the government to prioritise delivering tangible results, insisting that Ghanaians voted for the administration to improve the economy rather than continue attributing current challenges to its predecessor.
“The Ghanaian people voted for them to deliver just that and not to blame the previous government,” he said.
