Black Stars goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi has dismissed claims that there are rival camps within the national team involving himself and fellow shot-stopper Benjamin Asare.

Responding to reports suggesting the existence of separate “Ati Zigi” and “Benjamin Asare” factions in the Black Stars setup, the St. Gallen goalkeeper described the allegations as false and insisted the squad remained united throughout their time together.

“I think these are maybe the narratives from the people, but I don’t really think there’s a camp of someone in the camp of someone,” Ati Zigi said.

“At the end of the day, we all wanted to make the country proud. We are representing the country, so yeah, there was nothing like this.”

Ati Zigi acknowledged that the rumours may have originated from speculation but stressed that the goalkeeping department maintained a strong relationship and worked together for the good of the team.

“It could be something someone heard, but yeah, we were together as a team, as a goalkeeping unit, so there was nothing like there was this camp or there was this camp.”

“We were all together supporting each other to achieve a great thing for the country,” he added.

The comments come amid speculation over competition for the Black Stars’ number one spot, with Ati Zigi insisting that unity and teamwork remained the priority as the squad represented Ghana.
