Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, says he has information that could assist investigations into the assets of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
His comments come after an Accra High Court sentenced Wontumi to an effective 20 years’ imprisonment after finding him guilty on six counts in the illegal mining case involving Akonta Mining Company Limited.
In a video circulating on social media, A Plus invited the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to engage him as part of any investigations into Wontumi’s luxury vehicles, including his Rolls-Royce and Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon.
“NIB, when you finish, come let me give you information. Chairman Wontumi, his Rolls-Royce, and all those cars. I’ll give you information on the duty and the person who handled the duty for his G-Wagon and Rolls-Royce,” he said.
A Plus also stated that he plans to formally petition the GRA to examine the import duties paid on the vehicles.
“I’ll write a letter to GRA to investigate how much he paid as duty for those cars,” he added.
The Gomoa Central MP further criticised members of the NPP for showing support for Wontumi following his conviction, urging the party to focus on rebuilding its structures.
“NPP, you better rise up and fix your party for proper people to come and lead it,” he said.
He also accused some politicians of using public office to accumulate wealth and later relying on party supporters when they face legal difficulties.
“These people will do all these, and when they get into trouble, they’ll call you to come and protest on their behalf,” he said.
“When they come to you for votes, take a lot of money from them because when they get to power, they will fill their pockets, and when they get problems, they will call on you to fight for them,” he added.
