President John Dramani Mahama has praised the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) for its strong financial performance, highlighting a sharp increase in the institution’s reported net profit.
Speaking at the 2026 Governing Boards and CEOs Conference organised by the State Interests and Governance Authority, President Mahama said GoldBod recorded a net profit of approximately GH¢896.5 million in the latest financial period.
The figure represents a significant increase from the GH¢178.5 million recorded by the institution in 2024.
President Mahama described the development as encouraging, saying the financial performance demonstrates the importance of putting transparent, accountable and nationally beneficial structures in place to manage Ghana’s gold trade.
“This performance reflects the strategic importance of building transparent, accountable, and nationally beneficial structures around Ghana’s gold trade,” he stated.
The President, however, stressed that the ability to sustain the gains over time would be the real test for GoldBod’s leadership and management.
He said while the reported financial turnaround was commendable, maintaining strong performance consistently would be critical to ensuring the institution delivers lasting value to the country.
GoldBod’s improved financial results come amid efforts to strengthen Ghana’s participation in the gold value chain and ensure that the country derives greater benefits from its gold resources.
President Mahama’s remarks placed emphasis not only on the institution’s latest profit figure but also on the need for sound governance and accountability to underpin its future performance.
