A Ghanaian preacher has sparked an online debate after questioning why adults, particularly those approaching 40, would spend their time playing video games.
In a viral video from one of his preaching sessions, the self-styled man of God argued that someone around the age of 38 who still spends significant time playing PlayStation is not taking life seriously.
He contrasted such recreational activities with what he described as more productive pursuits, suggesting that people in their late 30s should be focused on building businesses, developing farms and pursuing major opportunities.
“At this age, you are still playing children’s games. We come to your house and you are holding a PlayStation. How old are you? 38. Your life is a joke!” he said.
He continued by comparing the lifestyle of such individuals with that of their peers.
“When your friends are building industries, making farms, doing great businesses and sealing deals, you are playing PlayStation and watching African Magic. At midnight, when you are hungry, you go and boil rice,” he added.
The preacher also shared an experience from an event where he had been invited to speak.
According to him, after delivering his speech, a man approached him and asked about his age, apparently impressed by the maturity of his presentation.
“I was invited to a meeting to speak. When I went there and finished speaking, the man looked at me and said, ‘How old are you?’ And I said, ‘Why are you asking my age?’ He said, ‘The way you speak, you speak very maturely.’ And I said, ‘But I’m not a child,’” he recalled.
His comments have since generated mixed reactions on social media.
While some users agreed with his broader message about adults making productive use of their time, others criticised the suggestion that playing video games is inherently childish or inappropriate for people in their late 30s.
Some argued that gaming is simply a form of recreation and that there is nothing wrong with adults enjoying video games as long as their hobbies do not interfere with their work, family responsibilities or other important commitments.
The debate has consequently shifted beyond the preacher’s comments to a wider question about how adults should balance productivity, entertainment and personal interests.
