A Texas man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for killing his Ghanaian-American wife after becoming convinced that she was being unfaithful.
Brandon Dickerson, 30, pleaded guilty to the murder of 23-year-old Alexis Walls, nearly a year after shooting her 15 times inside their home in Bryan, Texas.
According to a report by Atlanta Black Star, Brazos County Judge Kyle Hawthorne sentenced Dickerson to the maximum 50-year prison term after his guilty plea.
The fatal shooting occurred in February 2025, shortly after midnight. Court documents indicate that Dickerson fired 15 shots at Walls during the incident.
Investigators said Dickerson later admitted that jealousy over suspected infidelity had driven him to shoot his wife.
He also called 911 shortly after the shooting and confessed to killing Walls.
At the time, the couple’s 18-month-old child was inside the house. The child was not physically injured during the shooting and is now living with Walls’ parents, according to the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office.
The DA’s office said the child is autistic.
Following Dickerson’s guilty plea, prosecutors paid tribute to Walls, describing her as a friendly, kind and thoughtful young woman whose death left a lasting impact on her family and friends.
Her relatives affectionately called her a “hurricane” because of her lively personality and the warmth with which she welcomed people.
“Alexis never met a stranger. She welcomed everyone she met with open arms,” the DA’s office said.
The office added that Walls was “bubbly and talkative,” describing her as “a ball of joy” to her family and a source of support for her friends.
For her young son, Zaylen, prosecutors said she “was everything.”
Dickerson’s defence lawyers said he was deeply remorseful and had accepted full responsibility for what happened.
“Dickerson is sincerely remorseful for the actions of that night. Further, as evidenced in his plea, he takes full responsibility for his actions and accepts the punishment [assessed] in this case by Judge Kyle Hawthorne,” his legal team said in a statement to KCEN.
His lawyers also praised the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office for its professionalism in handling the case.
With the 50-year sentence, the case has reached its sentencing conclusion, nearly a year after Walls was fatally shot in her own home.
The circumstances surrounding her death have once again highlighted how suspicion and jealousy can escalate into deadly violence, leaving behind a young child and a grieving family.
