Former Member of Parliament Mavis Hawa Koomson has declared her determination to help the New Patriotic Party (NPP) return to power in the 2028 general election, saying former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will become Ghana’s next President.
Koomson, who is seeking to become the NPP’s National Women’s Organiser, said rebuilding the party’s grassroots structures and mobilising supporters would be critical to achieving that goal.
Speaking on Adom FM, she stressed that the NPP could not afford to approach the 2028 election without a strong and well-organised party structure.
“I will make sure I do anything to make sure we come back to power. Bawumia is going to be the next President. We need hard work, resources and unity,” she said.
According to Koomson, the party’s women’s wing has an important role to play in rebuilding the NPP and reconnecting with supporters across the country.
She said her decision to contest the National Women’s Organiser position was driven primarily by the interest of the party rather than personal ambition.
“So if we get someone who is a good organiser and mobiliser like me, it’s about the party, not individual interest. We are going to work very hard,” she stated.
Koomson also expressed confidence in her organisational and leadership abilities, arguing that her experience in mobilising and managing people makes her well suited for the position.
While her immediate ambition is to lead the women’s wing, she revealed that she has broader political aspirations within the NPP.
“My next target is National Chairman. I want to break the glass ceiling,” she said.
Her comments suggest that the National Women’s Organiser race forms part of a longer-term political journey for Koomson.
For now, however, she says her priority is to strengthen the party’s unity, improve grassroots mobilisation and secure the resources needed to mount a strong campaign ahead of the 2028 elections.
