The Ghana Police Service has arrested 10 suspects and rescued nine victims of suspected human trafficking following an intelligence-led operation targeting an alleged cyber fraud syndicate at Mataheko-Afienya in the Tema Region.
Speaking at a press conference, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Lydia Yaako Donkor, said the Tema Regional Police Command conducted the operation through its Regional Police Intelligence Directorate after weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering.
“The Tema Regional Police Command, through the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate, has arrested 10 suspects in connection with internet-related fraudulent activities following an intelligence-led operation on July 3, 2026,” she said.
According to Donkor, the suspects were arrested at an apartment believed to have served as the group’s operational base. During the raid, police recovered 28 laptop computers and nine mobile phones suspected to have been used in cyber-related crimes.
Preliminary investigations have identified Collins Francis Olai Ojo as the alleged leader of the syndicate. The CID Director-General said investigators believe he coordinated the group’s activities from the Tema hideout.
She further alleged that Olai Ojo was instrumental in bringing vulnerable individuals into Ghana for exploitation.
“He is accused of facilitating the movement of nine Nigerian nationals from Nigeria to Ghana by road and subjecting them to cyber-enabled fraudulent activities under his direction,” Donkor said.
The nine victims have since been rescued and relocated to a secure facility, where they are receiving the necessary care and support while investigations continue.
The suspects arrested are Collins Francis Olai Ojo, Mathew Balogun, Jahid Bello, Abdul Rahman Nufizi, Talent Sinivi, Pray Morrison, Lawal Abdul Aziz, David Ogoguna, Gift Prince and Kingsley Honest.
Donkor also disclosed that Olai Ojo has been arraigned before the Accra High Court and remanded into police custody pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
